The Story of the Nine-Colored Deer

Long ago, near a great river, there lived a magical deer whose body shone in nine beautiful colors. Known as the Nine-Colored Deer, it was admired not only for its beauty, but also for its kindness.

One day, the deer saw a man drowning in the river and bravely saved his life. Grateful for the rescue, the man promised never to reveal where the deer lived.

Later, the queen heard about the extraordinary deer and wished to possess it. The king offered a reward to anyone who could lead him to the animal. Tempted by the reward, the rescued man broke his promise and revealed the deer’s location.

When the king and his soldiers arrived, the Nine-Colored Deer told them the truth about what had happened. Deeply moved by the deer’s kindness and disappointed by the man’s betrayal, the king chose to protect the deer instead.

The story of the Nine-Colored Deer has been preserved in the murals of Dunhuang for centuries. It is a timeless tale about kindness, gratitude, loyalty, and the consequences of greed and betrayal.

This ancient story became the inspiration behind our design, bringing a piece of Dunhuang art and storytelling into a modern MacBook skin.
